(Winnipeg, MB) The City of Winnipeg paid tribute yesterday to the local athletes and coaches who participated in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Joey Johnson captured Paralympic gold in London as the Canadian men went undefeated en route to a thrilling victory over rival Australia in the final. Bill Johnson led the Canadian women to a quarter-final berth and eventual sixth place finish in London.
Other Olympians and Paralympians recognized at the event included rower Kevin Kowalyk, track athlete Nicole Sifuentes, gymnastics coach Zdravka Tchonkova, Paralympic swimmer Rhea Schmidt, wheelchair rugby silver medallist Jared Funk and Parlympic track athlete Colin Mathieson.
