(Vancouver, B.C.) The BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWBS) is proud to announce the 12 athletes selected to represent Team B.C. at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in wheelchair basketball. The squad was chosen following a selection camp in Prince George over Thanksgiving weekend.
The 2015 Canada Winter Games take place February 13th to March 1st 2015 in Prince George, B.C. The wheelchair basketball competition is scheduled to take place during the first week of the Canada Games, from February 16-20, 2015 at Duchess Park Secondary School in Prince George.
The 12 selected athletes are as follows:
- Joel Ewert (Prince George, B.C.)
- Aidan Love (Victoria, B.C.)
- Riley Martin (Oliver, B.C.)
- Alec Kendall (Kelowna, B.C.)
- Ben Garrett (Abbotsford, B.C.)
- Ben Hamilton (Surrey, B.C.)
- Ben Hagkull (Chilliwack, B.C.)
- Erin Higgins (Delta, B.C.)
- Paula Higgins (Delta, B.C.)
- Tanner Scott (Chilliwack, B.C.)
- Jack Kosterman (Fort Langley, B.C.)
- Avril Harris (Prince George, B.C.)
The team will be coached by multiple Paralympic gold medalist Marni Abbott-Peter, of Nelson, B.C.

“I am really looking forward to the opportunity for Team BC to play in our home province for the first time since wheelchair basketball has been in the Canada Games,” said Abbott-Peter. “We have a great group of athletes with a good mix of youth and experience. We are preparing for a peak performance at the Games and will be battling hard to reach the podium.”
The squad includes Jack Kosterman and Aidan Love, who represented Canada at the U23 Junior Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in 2013, Prince George natives Joel Ewert and Avril Harris, as well as sisters Erin and Paula Higgins, whose mother and father are both Paralympians.
The B.C. wheelchair basketball team most recently placed fourth at the 2014 Junior National Championship in Edmonton, Alta., which served as the seeding tournament for the 2015 Canada Games. Team B.C. finished in seventh place at the last Canada Winter Games in 2011 in Halifax, N.S.
